Amir Masoh is one of the most controversial, eccentric yet down to earth producer-songwriter you would ever meet, if you get a chance to meet him, that is. A self-professed recluse, he spends a huge amount of time away from the public eye and working on his craft. But being out of the public eye doesn’t mean he’s able to keep himself out of trouble. He’s known for rattling cages and going beyond what it required.

“It’s fun to rattle cages. It is only when you test the boundaries of what already works that you discover newer, fresher ways of coming out with something truly unique. You don’t stand out by playing it safe. An artist stands out by going all the way and making the best possible album, in both creative and business sense.”

To date, he has had a number of top 10’s as well as a few number 1’s. As a producer, arranger and songwriter, he has worked with some of the biggest names in Asia's music scene, which include, Hebe of SHE, Fahrenheit, Jack and Rai, Daphne Khoo, Taufik Batisah, Imran Ajmain and William Gomez. The list goes on. But unless you read the credits carefully, you would hardly notice his achievements. “People have tried to claim to credit for things that I have done. It’s fine. I’m not in it for the credit. I’m in it because when I’m able to deliver the great work, I know that I was the one responsible. It doesn’t matter what people think.”

A multi faceted industry player, to date he has gone through a myriad of roles, all related to the entertainment industry. He started his career as a coffee boy and has since done FOH mixing at live venues, song-writing with Warner Chappell, shooting of music videos as a Director of Photography and well as advertising; working on projects for companies like Singapore Airlines, Nokia and Hewlett Packard. He has also worked extensively as a recording/mix engineer and a session musician.

“Going through all these roles has helped me understand what is truly required to be a really good producer. A good producer, in my opinion, doesn’t just produce works that are creatively excellent, but also works that are commercially viable. And to do so, he has to have a pretty good grasp of what’s happening beyond the songs and outside of the studio. I believe that if you make an album that doesn’t sell, how on earth are you going to share your story with listeners? Ultimately, every artist’s intention is to share their songs with the audience.“

He is selective as to the kinds of work that he undertakes. His understanding of what it’s like to be an artist gives a better overview as to the needs of an artist. “I’m not always the best person for the job. It’s not that I can’t deliver the work, it’s just that if there’s someone else out who’s more capable in telling your story, and there are; get that person.”

Amir Masoh is truly controversial, eccentric, and down-to-earth. But the one thing that he is most proud of, is the fact that he knows that with every project that is handed to him, the artist is placing a piece of their future in his hands. “I will fight for any artist who trusts me enough to put the next phase of their career in my hands. That responsibility is sacred to me.”
