Biography
Amir Masoh is a producer, songwriter, and arranger signed to Universal Music Publishing. Over three decades, he has built a career defined by crossing boundaries between genres, languages, cultures, and creative disciplines, from his origins in Singapore to the stages and studios of Asia’s biggest productions.
His musical journey began at age three on a battered keyboard his father salvaged and repaired. Immersed from childhood in everything from classical music to heavy metal, he was teaching himself piano and guitar long before formal training entered the picture. At seventeen, a Special Teens Award from the Yamaha Music Foundation made him the first non-Japanese performer at their Teens Music Festival in Japan, and led directly to his first publishing deal with Warner Chappell. True to the advice he received that day, he has since worked across every dimension of the music industry as a producer, songwriter, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, recording/mix engineer, A&R and creative music director.
Songwriting
His songs have been recorded by artists across Asia, from Cantopop to Southeast Asian pop. He has written for Angela Zhang 張韶涵, whose albums have sold millions of copies across Asia, and for Jacky Cheung 張學友, one of the best-selling Cantopop artists of all time. In the Philippines, his song Starlight for Darren Espanto, one of the country’s most decorated artists, reached No.1 on iTunes upon release. His song Here I Am appeared on Juan Karlos Labajo’s album JKL, an artist who now reaches 3.4 million monthly Spotify listeners, and A Haphazard Adventure 马马虎虎 was placed with Ivy Lee 李艾薇, a Golden Melody Award-nominated artist under Universal Music Taiwan.
Productions & Arrangements
He developed the concept and arrangement for Moonfall, the promotional single for Roland Emmerich’s Hollywood film of the same name, performed by Kelly Yu 于文文, who appears in the film. His production of Seribu Tahun for Imran Ajmain charted strongly across Singapore and Malaysia and remains in regular radio rotation more than two decades after its release. He arranged Love Is Blameless 愛沒有錯 for Elva Hsiao 蕭亞軒, one of Mandopop’s most enduring artists. Throughout his career, he has produced and/or arranged for Rainie Yang 楊丞琳, Faith Yang 楊乃文, Shin 苏见信, Hebe Tien 田馥甄, and Fahrenheit 飛輪海, among others.
Big Arenas & Concerts
As a concert arranger, he has worked across multiple tours for Angela Zhang 張韶涵, including the Fable World Tour which drew over one million people across 36 shows, as well as for A-Mei 阿妹 and Kelly Yu 于文文. He was appointed Creative Music Director for Sam Lee’s 李聖傑 One Day World Tour, spanning twenty shows across China, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore. As songwriter, producer, and creative contributor, he worked on the SEA Games 2015, writing and producing four songs for the companion album including two official theme songs, while also contributing to the music for the opening and closing ceremonies at Singapore’s National Stadium.
He received the Creative Excellence Award from the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore in 2018. He is currently focused on bringing his sensibility to the Western market as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator for artists serious about craft.
